The Amherst Chirp

About The Chirp

chirp | ch ərp| verb [ intrans. ](typically of a small bird or an insect) utter a short, sharp, high-pitched sound

In this fast-paced life, news gets lost. The swirl of reports on incarcerated celebrities, unexpected insurgencies, and the pending apocalypse (in its various forms) skillfully and effortlessly obstructs the little stories. These little stories may not even warrant much coverage or comment – and that’s their charm. They are the stories of the little things, things commonly overlooked or taken for granted.

The Chirp is a blog for those little things…only on a smaller scale.

First and foremost, The Chirp is a blog about Amherst College and things relating to it. Each and every story posted will have some relevance to Amherst College, even if that relevance is tangential at best.

As its name suggests, The Chirp does not aim to seek out the “big story.” The word “chrip” calls to mind small birds telling small, short stories. These stories are observations and history, things viewed from high up in trees.

So, think of The Chirp as that little birdie that’s always telling you something…albeit without the gossip.
